How To Use the SPD Life Symptom Checklist
Your guide to the SPD Life Symptom Checklists
Overview
The checklists you find here on SPD Life are not official symptom checklists for Sensory Processing Disorder, and are not capable of providing you with a true diagnosis of SPD or any other disorder. However, while these lists aren't capable of diagnosing SPD, they are useful as a tool to help guide you toward understand which of your 'quirks' may be caused by SPD, a diagnosable neurological disorder. They may be helpful to bring in to an occupational therapist at an appointment, to provide them with useful information about your sensory issues and personal past.
About the Checklists
There are a multitude of checklists available. The checklists offered on this website are broken into smaller, more easily digestible pieces to allow you to better see each modality, and to avoid having everything in one excessively long list. The background colors are altered line by line with the eyes of the visually hyper-sensitive in mind.
Instructions
On each checklist, the modality of SPD you are checking for is broken down into smaller pieces, often by each sense, to help make a clearer distinction of where each sensory issue falls on the spectrum.
On the right hand side (→), you will find the symptom of SPD. On the left (←) side, you will see a blank line, which you can use to fill in your rating. Your rating should be a number from 0 to 5, or the letter 'R'. Here is your guide to figuring out which number to use:
| Number | Consistancy Experienced | % of Time |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | Never | < 5% |
| 1 | Rarely | 5 - 20% |
| 2 | Sometimes | 21 - 39% |
| 3 | Moderately often | 40 - 60% |
| 4 | Most Often | 61 - 84% |
| 5 | Always | 85 - 100% |
